Guess what, Gears fans? The long-rumored Gears of War Collection is finally dropping this year - at least, if the latest insider whispers are to be believed! And while it won't have traditional multiplayer, co-op play is still in the mix.
For those who remember the Xbox 360 glory days, Gears of War was one of Microsoft's biggest hitters. But let's be real - it's lost a bit of its spark in recent years. The last major release was Gears 5 back in 2019, followed by the strategy spin-off Gears Tactics in 2020. Since then, it's been a bit of a quiet stretch for the franchise.
But fear not! Microsoft seems to be gearing up (pun totally intended) for a major comeback, kicking things off with the newly announced prequel, Gears of War: E-Day, set for 2026. And that's not all - according to multiple insiders, the long-rumored Gears of War Collection is set to drop this summer!
Rumors about a remastered collection have been swirling for years, but this latest update comes from well-known Xbox leaker eXtas1s. In a recent YouTube video, he claimed that E-Day won't be ready for 2025 (despite earlier reports) but that Microsoft plans to tide fans over with a Gears of War Collection release this year instead.
Details are still under wraps, but word is that Microsoft will officially announce the collection during this year's Xbox Games Showcase (typically held in June), with a launch following shortly after.
Now, before you get too hyped, eXtas1s has had a mixed track record lately. He was spot-on about Forza Horizon 5 coming to PS5 but missed the mark on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4. However, another insider, DetectiveSeeds, has backed up these Gears rumors - so maybe there's some real fire behind all this smoke.
Fingers crossed, because if this is true, it's going to be a great year for Gears fans! Stay tuned for more updates.
@DetectiveSeeds For further on Gears of War collection. The game is loaded onto PS storefront on the back end (this is the same with others I have said in the past). It shows 1 player and does not show support for additional players. I asked about co-op, but no clarification on that yet.

They claim a Gears Of War collection will be released in 'early to mid August' and that it will be 'PS5 Pro enhanced', suggesting it will come out on Xbox and PlayStation 5 consoles at the same time. This information apparently comes from a listing on the backend of the PlayStation Store, but there are no screenshots to support it.
Windows Central editor Jez Corden has said that according to his sources the collection will have co-op but not competitive multiplayer.
@Jezorden yeah co-op, but not PvP, is what i heard

This might come as a surprise since multiplayer has always been a huge part of Gears of War, but I guess that's the problem with modern remasters
