Xbox One revealed: What you need to know (TechRadar)
The public reception has been mostly negative. Microsoft's reveal focused on the console's media abilities and partnerships with companies like EA.
For what started as a gaming console, very little game content was actually shown. The content that was shown appeared to be almost all pre-rendered cgi (and even some live action).
Technically it was good - it was a hardware reveal after all. Microsoft's marketing department followed their specification: show off the hardware. However, this approach failed to capture the interest of their core consumers - the gamers.
It would seem we have to wait for E3 to learn more and see actual game footage.
Since the reveal it appears the two most common points of discussion across the internet are the name, and the size. The size of the console quickly spurred on Reddit users to create images like the following.
I asked the MLWGames Facebook page what their first impressions were of the Xbox One. Although there wasn't many responses in the first day, it's quite clear negative outweighs the positive.
Unfortunately, as all chefs will know, we eat with our eyes first.
Finally, I came across a 'highlights' video which shows in a comic way why actual gamers were not happy with the reveal.
