The World War 1 area opens up during Sequence 6. Scale the burning roof tops, shoot at invading Germans and have a cup of tea with someone you may have not seen quite so young.
You may revisit World War 1 area after the World War 1 mission. Just go to the portal on the East part of the Thames.
